Hi, I'm Karice "Ressie" Luck-Brimmer an Independent Public Historian and genealogist based in Southside Virginia. I started Our History Matters as a way to bridge the gap between historic preservation and marginalized communities that are often left out of the narrative. With over 20 years experience as a genealogist, I have documented the lives of most African American families in Danville, Pittsylvania County, and surrounding areas. As I was growing up I always had a deep desire to learn and know where I came from and how I was connected to others in my community. My grandfather referred to everyone as cousin, curiosity drove me to study the kinships. Known as the community historian, after one conversation with me you will most likely leave my presence with knowing something about your ancestors and how they lived. My goal is to expose the locals and greater public to the contributions made by African Americans in our region. I make this happen by interviews and collecting the oral histories of the people who lived through historic moments. I feel what better way to do this is by getting the real stories from eye witnesses. Most of these omitted histories are historic treasures just waiting to be found. As a tour guide, I mainly provide tours in the local area. I love exploring new places and finding spaces that are unique to the African American history in this region. I love the hunt, always looking to expand my expertise. I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
